Choosing A Doctor of Chiropractic

What is Chirorpractic?

In today’s fast-paced, instant-preferred world, quick and painless is what most people want and expect.  Yet, despite all the advances in technology, we are unable to neither defy time nor ignore the effects of time on our body. Health is more than being free of symptoms, it’s being full of life and energy. Chiropractic care is not a “duck-tape” approach. It addresses the cause of your problem not simply mask the symptom.  There are many well known conditions that chiropractic has proven to be very effective, some actually superior to the chemical based medical approach.  Chiropractic is a natural method of health care that focuses on treating the causes of physical problems, rather than just the symptoms.

Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: With a normally functioning spine and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. That's because the spinal cord, which is protected by the bones of the spine (vertebrae), is the main pathway of your nervous system. It controls the sensation of touch, muscle movement, and all function throughout your body. Therefore it emphasizes the amazing self-healing powers of the body to repair itself without the use of drugs or invasive surgery. Chiropractic engages your own healing abilities to stabilize joints and return function to your back, neck, wrists, knees, ankles, arms and legs thru various misaligned spinal and/ or extremity adjustment techniques. It keeps your nervous system, which controls your whole body including organs, from being over or under stimulated. In effect it keeps your body from wearing prematurely and keeps you functioning at an optimal level and feeling great.

Many people think Chiropractors are simply back doctors that only deal with neck and back pain.  This is a huge misconception. A doctor of Chiropractic specializes in relieving the pressure of a hard bone on a soft delicate nerve through a series of gentle adjustments. When a nerve is being compressed by a bone or muscle the proper amount of information traveling along that nerve is compromised.  In fact, the weight of a dime on a soft nerve is enough pressure to decrease nerve flow up to 40% in some patients. What does this mean? Well, imagine that the nerve flow to your heart was decreased by 40%.  That would mean your heart is only receiving 60% of the neurological impulses it needs to sustain life. How?  Every cell, tissue, muscle and organ in your body is powered by the Nervous System. Biological messages from the brain are sent throughout the body via nerve pathways, allowing it to function. In fact, there isn’t one solitary molecule in your body that escapes the dominance of the Nervous System. These messages run from the brain, down the spinal cord, along spinal nerves which exit the spinal column through small holes, and finally terminate at various places in the body. When two bones of the spinal column misalign upon each other the nerve running between them is “pinched” and nerve flow is interrupted.  This condition is known as a SUBLUXATION. Subluxations are corrected at Colonia Chiropractic Center

A subluxation is a misalignment that is less than a dislocation causing an interruption of electrical nerve impulses between the brain and the body.  It is a Chiropractor’s primary objective to detect and correct vertebral subluxations.
Keeping your body subluxation FREE you are allowing every cell, tissue, muscle and organ the ability to function at its optimum level of performance.  It is important to have your spine examined by a Doctor of Chiropractic at least twice per year.
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system.

"Chiropractic" comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand."  A Chiropractors main objective is detecting and correcting musculoskeletal areas of the body which are functioning improperly. Corrective procedures are performed through a series of gentle adjustments and may also include adjunctive physiotherapeutics such as electric muscle stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser…etc., physical exercise programs, proper nutrition and lifestyle modifications for promoting positive overall health.

The health conditions which Doctors of Chiropractic address are as varied and as vast as the nervous system itself. Good Day Total Health Clinic uses an extensive examination process which includes; consultation, case history, physical examination stress tests, muscle testing, postural analysis, range of motion studies, orthopedic tests, and radiographic imaging to diagnose a patient's condition and arrive at a course of treatment. In addition, they provide a careful chiropractic structural examination, paying particular attention to the spine.

The examination of the spine to evaluate structure and function is what makes chiropractic different from other health care procedures. Your spinal column is a series of movable bones which begin at the base of your skull and end in the center of your hips. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves extend down the spine from the brain and exit through a series of openings. The nerves leave the spine and form a complicated network which influences every living tissue in your body.

Accidents, falls, stress, tension, overexertion, and countless other factors can result in displacements or subluxation of the spinal column, causing irritation to spinal nerve roots. These irritations are often what cause malfunctions in the human body. Chiropractic teaches that reducing or eliminating his irritation to spinal nerves can cause your body to operate more efficiently and more comfortably.
